CenturyLink's Seattle FTTH Internet, IPTV customers suffering ongoing outage

A number of CenturyLink's (NYSE: CTL) FTTH customers in Seattle continue to report that they have been without service since Sunday afternoon.

According to a Geek Wire report, a number of affected residential customers talked about how they could not get an Internet connection on Twitter beginning on Sunday, a problem that continued throughout Monday.

Comments posted on downdetector.com revealed that customers in North Seattle are still experiencing problems.

When asked about the problem, a CenturyLink spokesperson told FierceTelecom that it has resolved most of the issues and is working with those that are still being impacted by the outage.

"Service was restored in a couple impacted communities on Sunday evening," said a CenturyLink spokesperson. "We continue to work with a small number of customers who are still having some issues."

With the looming threat of Google Fiber (NASDAQ: GOOG) coming to the city, Seattle has been a key target for its 1 Gbps FTTH broadband data and Prism IPTV services.

Since it launched its 1 Gbps FTTH broadband service to residential and business customers throughout a number of Seattle neighborhoods in mid-2014, it is now available to over 100,000 homes and 5,500 business locations in the Seattle area. In August, it made its Prism IPTV service available over the FTTH network.

CenturyLink has set an ambitious target to expand 1 Gbps service. As of the end of the third quarter, it enabled more than 780,000 households and 16 markets with its fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services.
