Cisco maintains dominant spot in enterprise session-border-controller market, says Infonetics

Cisco remained the dominant enterprise session border controller (eSBC) vendor in the first quarter, according to Infonetics' Enterprise Session Border Controllers report.

"Cisco notched another quarter at the top of the enterprise session border controller (eSBC) market share leaderboard, turning its commanding position in enterprise voice and data solutions into an advantage as it sells its eSBCs," said Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC, and IMS at Infonetics Research.

Although there were no major position changes with the other dominant eSBC vendors--including AudioCodes, Dialogic, Ingate, Oracle, and Sonus--Myers said that Sonus did report the largest sequential revenue gain in the first quarter.

On a global basis basis, eSBC revenue totaled $60.3 million in 1Q14, up 1 percent sequentially but down 9 percent from the first quarter of 2013.

North America, in particular, continues to be a dominant region for the eSBC market, representing over three-quarters of eSBC sales in the first quarter. Besides North America, Europe continues to accelerate adoption of SIP trunking, a situation that Infonetics says will positively affect eSBC sales outside of North America over time.

The research firm forecasts the worldwide eSBC market to grow to $433 million in 2018.
