Cologix acquires Colo5, expands Jacksonville footprint and adds Lakeland, Fla.

Cologix is continuing its growth strategy by acquiring Colo5, a deal that will give it over 225,000 square feet across two facilities in Jacksonville and Lakeland, Fla.

Inside Jacksonville, Cologix gains 125,000 square feet of data center and disaster recovery space in a hurricane rated building. What's significant about the Jacksonville area for Cologix and other service providers is that it has become a key global Internet hub due to the growing presence of sub-sea cables landing there directly from Central and South America.

By entering the Lakeland market, Cologix will be able to address customer needs with 100,000 square feet of colocation space. Being centrally located between Tampa and Orlando, the service provider said that Lakeland's elevation and proximity to major market centers make it a natural location for primary or secondary IT sites for enterprises in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Colo5's ability to attract customers and available capacity accelerates Cologix's expansion plan by 18 months.

In addition to expanding its available space, Cologix gains over 100 customers, including a mix of local enterprises and various Fortune 500 brands across the finance, retail, media and system integrator verticals.

Similar to earlier deals it made in Florida, including the JAX Meet Me Room (JMMR) last September, scale is the focus of this latest deal. This is the ninth acquisition for Cologix, enabling it to grow its network neutral North American data center platform.

Florida is just one of many markets where Cologix is enhancing its data center presence. Earlier this year, the data center provider purchased DataCenter.BZ, which helped it establish a foothold in the Ohio market, and established a new data center hub in Montreal.

By completing this purchase, Cologix will support over 850 customers across its North American data center platform, which now spans eight markets and 20 data centers. The service provider now operates network neutral data centers in Columbus, Dallas, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
