Comcast lights Gig Ethernet for Maryland's Bethesda Green business incubator

Comcast Business (NASDAQ: CMCSA) struck an agreement to provide Gigabit Ethernet service for Bethesda Green, an incubator for environmentally sustainable businesses in Montgomery County, Md., illustrating its growing presence in the business sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, Comcast Business will provide 1 Gbps Ethernet Dedicated Internet service with the option to scale up to 10 Gbps based on future business service demands.

The 1 Gbps Ethernet Dedicated Internet service enables videoconferencing capabilities between members and their customers, provides access to the cloud for file sharing and storage, and expedites the transfer of large digital files for engineering and product development for some of the region's most promising startups.

As a nonprofit set on accelerating the local sustainable economy, Bethesda Green houses a fast-growing business incubator that offers numerous networking events, education programs and a co-working facility on site.

By having a 1 Gbps connection at its site, Bethesda Green can add broadband access to the growing list of amenities that will attract green technology firms, water and energy innovators, healthy consumer products entrepreneurs, green service providers and nonprofits from around the region.

Veronique Marier, executive director of Bethesda Green, said in a release that by partnering with Comcast Business it has been able to "attract new members who are looking for the most cutting-edge technologies to help them make their mark on the world."

While Comcast won't announce its first quarter earnings until Wednesday, the service provider reported in the fourth quarter that the business segment exceeded a $5 billion revenue run rate, while maintaining 20 percent growth.
