CWA dedicated $225,000 to lobbying in Q2

The Communications Workers of America (CWA), the telecom industry's largest union, kept up its lobbying efforts in the second quarter. According to a disclosure, report, the CWA spent $225,000 in the second quarter lobbying the government for worker safety, health care and pay increases.

Although unchanged from the first quarter, it was slightly higher than the $200,000 it spent in Q2 2009. In addition, the CWA lobbied the government over the construction of new broadband access networks.

One of the biggest issues that CWA lobbied Congress over was Comcast's pending acquisition of a 51 percent stake in NBC Universal from General Electric. Although the Comcast-NBC marriage has been met with opposition from consumer groups and has come under fire at various congressional hearings, it is expected to wrap by the end of this year.
