Enterprise SBCs poised for growth as VoIP gateways are replaced, IHS says

The enterprise session border controller (eSBC) market may have taken a sequential 11 percent hit in the first quarter of 2015, but an IHS report says that new growth is on the horizon.

As more enterprises move to replace their VoIP gateways, IHS forecast that the eSBC segment will grow at a 6 percent compound annual growth rate from 2014 to 2019.

In the first quarter, global eSBC market revenue was $65 million, up 8 percent year over year. Vendors shipped 2.6 million eSBC sessions during the period.

Diane Myers, research director for VoIP, UC and IMS at IHS, said that while the eSBC market grew during the first quarter "it still came in lower than our original forecast due to a drop in average pricing as large deals garnered attractive pricing in the quarter."

From a regional perspective, North America continues to lead eSBC sales. On the vendor front, Cisco continues to enjoy its lead, with nearly a quarter of the world's eSBC revenue in the first quarter. Trailing Cisco are a trio of vendors including AudioCodes, Oracle and Avaya.
