Equinix acquires Nimbo, enhances hybrid cloud capabilities

Equinix has acquired Nimbo, giving the data-center provider a new set of professional-services capabilities to help enterprise customers develop and implement hybrid cloud architectures.

Equinix said that the acquisition of Nimbo aligns well with its strategy of creating hybrid cloud solutions by shoring up its set of professional-services capabilities to support data-center migrations and WAN optimization.

"With our acquisition of Nimbo, we have expanded our ability to help customers leverage our unique cloud-density and Cloud Exchange value propositions and assist with the design and deployment of hybrid cloud solutions," said Pete Hayes, chief sales officer for Equinix, in a release.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Although more enterprises are moving into the cloud, they still need a source that can help with this transition. One of the specialties that Nimbo brings to the table is its expertise in moving legacy applications into a hybrid cloud architecture and connecting legacy data centers to the cloud.

Being a smaller company, Nimbo reported less than $10 million in revenue last year. By becoming a part of Equinix, Nimbo will be able to reach a much larger global customer base that Equinix serves through its growing base of data centers.

Acquiring Nimbo is part of Equinix's broader effort to enhance its standing as a key partner of enterprises that are adopting hybrid cloud architectures.

Equinix's hybrid cloud drive is being pursued via three angles: acquiring complementary capabilities, such as CloudSigma; establishing relationships with key cloud players, including Amazon Web Services and Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Azure ExpressRoute; and expanding data-center facilities in Europe and Asia-Pacific.
