Equinix addresses IoT, real-time analytics with data hub service

Equinix has introduced its Data Hub service targeting enterprise customers' need to store data near the clouds they use while maintaining control on how that data is managed.

An integral component of an Interconnection Oriented Architecture (IOA), Data Hub is a bundled solution that consists of preconfigured colocation and power, combined with cloud-integrated data storage solutions.

Equinix says this solution will enable enterprises to develop large data repositories and dispense, consume and process the data at the edge -- close to its source and users.

Leveraging its experience working with customers that use Equinix to access major public clouds, this solution is being offered as a pre-packed service.

What's driving the need for this service is the fact that large enterprises are having deal with new data service shifts such as IoT and Big Data. A recent IDC research report revealed that 77 percent of businesses reported that in the past 12 to 24 months they have expanded the number of data types and sources being used and analyzed to make strategic, operational, and tactical decisions.

Equinix maintains that by developing an IOA at the edge, businesses will be able to more effectively deal with growing increases in data volumes.

Data Hub enables the deployment of IT gear integrated with Performance Hub.  Data Hub consists of a large footprint of systems which perform data ingestion and analytics while being securely connected over redundant, high-speed connections to Performance Hub.  Performance Hub connects the global enterprise network to public and private cloud services. Equinix says this combination allows Data Hub customers to securely manage huge volumes of data, and receive or deliver real-time insight from any location.

By combining the Data Hub with Equinix's Performance Hub and Cloud Exchange, business customers have components required to implement an IOA strategy.

Three of the common use cases for Data Hub are cloud-integrated tiered storage, big data analytics infrastructure, and data protection and replication.

To accomodate a business' deployment strategies, Equinix Professional Services (EPS) and Equinix's channel partner resources can design the Performance Hub and Data Hub solution suited to a customer's unique needs.
