Frontier entices new broadband subscribers with 1 year free Amazon Prime offer

Frontier is offering one year of free membership to Amazon Prime (NASDAQ: AMZN) as a way to lure new broadband subscribers into its fold.

Available with all of its packages including TV and voice, the offer delivers an over the top video service that customers can access through their laptop, tablet, TV and most smartphones throughout its 28-state footprint.

The new service offering will provide various benefits to customers.

From an online content perspective, customers will be able to gain unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and TV episodes and unlimited streaming and downloads of more than one million songs, playlists and stations with Prime Music.

Video and music is only one part of the offering. Customers will get access to than 800,000 books with the Kindle Owners' Lending Library and secure, unlimited photo storage in Amazon Cloud Drive with Prime Photos

Delivering over the top video and music content has been a growing area of focus for Frontier.

Earlier this year, Frontier began an over-the-top video trial with its partner TiVo as a way to appeal to users who are not interested in traditional linear television services.

Seeking out new video growth opportunities, including OTT, makes sense for Frontier as it looks to increase broadband share, a trend that was evident in the second quarter.

During the second quarter, the company added 29,200 net customers, up from the 17,100 it added in the first quarter of 2015. The telco ended the quarter with a total of 2.4 million broadband customers.
