GVTC establishes interconnection point at Data Foundry's Texas 1 site, enhances wholesale Ethernet business

GVTC Communications has established an interconnection point at Data Foundry's Texas 1 facility, enabling the provider to extend its emerging wholesale Ethernet service set to a broader array of customers.

The Texas 1 facility will serve as a gateway for GVTC's network to deliver service level agreements (SLAs) and protected low latency rings for a number of key applications such as disaster recovery, synchronous data replication and wireless backhaul.

"GVTC customers co-located in Texas 1 can achieve low-latency synchronous data replication to anywhere in the San Antonio/Austin Metroplex for large, latency-sensitive applications," said Josh Pettiette, GVTC vice president, product, business development and strategic planning.

Customers can access Texas 1 from a number of South Texas communities, including San Antonio, Austin, Marble Falls, the Rio Grande Valley, Houston, and others.

Having already built out a fiber network to serve its own backhaul needs as well as its residential and business customers, GVTC launched a wholesale service division in May.

Given the sensitivity of the applications GVTC will address, the telco's choice of Texas 1 as an interconnection point makes sense. Texas 1 is a purpose-built facility that can operate as a dedicated data center, which provides 24 x 7 x 365 onsite support.

While Texas 1 is the first data center partner GVTC has announced, it likely won't be the last. When GVTC launched its wholesale division in May, the service provider said that it laid out two main initiatives: expanding its fiber network, which includes speeds exceeding 100G; and securing a presence in data centers and carrier hotels in Austin and San Antonio.

One of the unique aspects of the network build is that it includes a unique, diverse path along U.S. Highway 281, enabling end-to-end SLAs and protected low latency rings for real-time applications, such as disaster recovery, synchronous data replication, and cellular backhaul.
