Integra Telecom establishes new PoP at Phoenix NAP data center

Integra Telecom is the latest service provider to establish a point of presence (PoP) in the Phoenix NAP data center.

As a reciprocal relationship, Phoenix NAP customers will be able to access Integra's set of fiber-based network services, including Internet, MPLS VPN and private line networks. Phoenix NAP's customers can either work with Integra Telecom directly to get service or with Phoenix NAP's carrier neutral sales staff.

At the same time, Steve Zimba, chief marketing officer for Integra Telecom, says the CLEC is able to enhance the "interconnectivity, colocation and emergency backup services for our business customers." The data centers add another level of protection it can use in the event of a disaster on top of the multiple, diverse 10 gigabyte per second data backbone links it already has in place.

Establishing presence in the Phoenix NAP makes sense for Integra as Arizona has become a big growth market that began with its acquisition of the former Electric Lightwave and Vancouver-Eschelon Telecom. With the integration of those two service providers into its fold, Integra dedicated about $5 million to extend its fiber optic network reach into four Central Arizona regions, including Paradise Valley, Scottsdale and Chandler in late 2009.
