Level 3 enables China Telecom to deliver cloud-based video

Level 3 is extending its video cloud services to the China market by signing an agreement with China Telecom Global Limited (CTG).

By signing this agreement, Level 3 said that its content customers will be able to get access to China's consumer market while allowing CTG's content customers to distribute content and media services on a global basis.

The service provider could not have picked a better time to sign such an agreement. According to various studies, China is one of the fastest growing markets for video consumption and production across multiple devices and formats globally.

In addition, CTG will provide access to Level 3's Video Cloud Services for its own content customers who need to expand their own global audience base. To support this initiative, Level 3 will install CDN nodes initially in Hong Kong, with additional expansion planned across China.

Winning this deal is a key milestone for Level 3 as it allows the company to highlight another major carrier partner for its growing cloud-based content business.

EMEA overall is another major growth region for Level 3. During the first quarter, earnings rose 3 percent to $225 million with wholesale and enterprise revenue of $87 million and $138 million, respectively.
