Main One cable system completes 100 days of operation

Main One, the operator of a 6,900 km submarine cable system that provides connectivity along the West Coast of Africa from Portugal to Nigeria with a day-1 link to Ghana, has completed 100 days of operation of the first phase of its network.

In service since July, Main One relied on the help of two key partners--Pioneer Consulting and SubCom-to get the network up and running.

Pioneer Consulting provided lead project management and lead engineering for the undersea fiber optic system, while SubCom conducted installation of terminal equipment.

The build out of phase two of the Main One network, which began in June, will connect Ghana and Nigeria with an extension to South Africa by the end of 2011.

Already, the network has attracted at least three main service providers--UAE-based Etisalat, South Africa's MTN and Nigerian-based Starcomms.
