Network security firewall sales reach $1B in Q2 2015, says research firm

The ongoing realignment of data center architecture, including the migration to higher speeds, is driving growing demand for providers to upgrade network security throughput and performance, says Dell'Oro Group. As a result, the research firm reported that network security firewall market sales climbed more than 10 percent compared to the year-ago-period and approached $1 billion quarterly run-rate during second quarter 2015.

A particular area of growth was firewall products optimized for the edge of the campus network. Dell'Oro said that this segment grew faster than those optimized for data center deployment.

Casey Quillin, director of data center appliance research at Dell'Oro, said that while Cisco continues to dominate the market with nearly 40 percent of market sales, smaller players like Fortinet and Palo Alto "are seeing more customers willing to commit to larger orders." While sales at the campus edge were robust at 14 percent versus the year-ago quarter, there was not much change in share among the players. Release
