Telstra Global expands data center locations in Asia, Australia and North America

Telstra Global (ASX: TLS.AX) is ramping up its data center location reach by integrating and adding capacity to data centers across six locations in Asia, Australia and North America.

As part of this new initiative, the service provider expanded its Sydney data center by adding 155 racks, while acquiring space in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and San Jose in the United States. It also added a new Tokyo facility in Japan and began offering low latency network connectivity services from its Singapore data center.

Martin Bishop, head of Telstra Global's network application and services portfolio, said that these expanded capabilities and coverage will provide its multinational corporation customers with access to a mix of new connectivity and data center solutions with a single integrated service-level agreement.

With these network and service expansions complete, Telstra Global now offers its "Connected Colocation" solution from 18 data centers worldwide with a number of network connectivity options which extend to over 1,400 points of presence (PoPs) in over 230 countries and territories.

A similar data center expansion effort serving Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom was driven by a $745 million investment in cloud computing services it began in 2011.

The service provider also continues to expand its list of carrier partnerships. In October, Telstra announced that it established an External-Network to Network Interconnection (E-NNI) agreement with CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL), which increased its footprint throughout the United States, to accomodate MNCs that are growing their presence in Asia Pacific.
