Ting to connect Holly Springs, N.C. homes with FTTH by end of 2016

Ting is taking another step forward with its FTTH deployment plans, announcing that it will begin construction in Holly Springs, North Carolina later this summer and connect homes by the end of the year.

The service provider said in a blog post that the exact timing of how each neighborhood will be connected to the network could be altered as it moves forward with the construction process.

"We expect to be connecting homes to the network by the end of 2016," Ting said. "Like weather reports, the further out you look, the more things are subject to change."

After tallying votes from various communities from consumers pre-ordering the service, the first neighborhood that will get Ting's 1 Gbps service will be Holly Glen. Construction in the neighborhood will start in August.

Ting's initial buildout plans include other surrounding neighborhoods including Holly Pointe, Autumn Park and Morgan Park.

The second phase of the fiber network build will start in October, followed by the third phase in November.

Although internet activation costs vary by location, they don't exceed $200 for residential customers or $400 for a business. Customers who sign up for service are required to purchase a Ting Internet Box, which acts as a high-speed wireless router, for $199 outright or rent one for $9 a month.

Following the 1 Gbps pricing regime set by Google Fiber (NASDAQ: GOOG), Ting's 1 Gbps pricing is competitive at $89 a month for a home and $139 for a business. The service provider is also offering a lower-cost 5 Mbps service.

Outside of North Carolina, the service provider plans to offer service in the Sandpoint, Idaho area as well as to residents in the communities of Sandpoint, Dover, Ponderay and Kootenai.

Ting has already launched FTTH service Charlottesville, Virginia, followed by Westminster, Maryland. In early 2016, Ting Internet began demand generation and assessment in Holly Springs.
