tw telecom ramps up Las Vegas network footprint

tw telecom, which is in the process of merging with Level 3 Communications, is adding more power to its Las Vegas network by extending its presence into North Las Vegas and south into Spring Valley and Henderson.

By making this expansion, tw telecom will be able to potentially attract more business customers looking for data services, particularly Ethernet.

"This expansion is the result of strong growth and demand from our existing base of customers across the Las Vegas Valley, as well as opportunities resulting from economic growth in North Las Vegas and the Valley's southern suburbs," said Kim Salinas, vice president and general manager, tw telecom Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas expansion is part of a broader multi-market effort to expand its metro fiber footprint throughout the United States. It plans to enter into five new high-demand markets--including Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Richmond and the Salt Lake Valley area--and accelerate the density of its metro-fiber footprint in more than a third of its existing markets.

Already, it has been conducting network expansions in Nashville, Memphis and Orange County and Houston.

These expansions will greatly enhance tw telecom's local on-net network presence, which was one of the key motivators that drove Level 3 to make a move to purchase the company earlier this month.
