USCarrier Telecom jumps into the Ethernet exchange game

USCarrier Telecom, a Southeastern-based wholesale provider, has decided it's time to enter the emerging Ethernet exchange business.

Leveraging Cyan's Z-Series packet optical transport platform (P-OTP), USCarrier will provide Ethernet-based virtual interconnection across its Points of Presence in their four state network.

Simliar to other Ethernet exchanges launched by CENX, Equinix, Neutral Tandem and TELX, USCarrier's Ethernet exchange service in principle will allow itself and other carrier partners sell services across its footprint while reducing service provisioning time.

Providing initial bandwidth speeds from 50 Mbps to as high as 1 Gbps, the service will be initially rolled out to nine POPs in Georgia and Alabama and operational on July 1. By the end of 2011, USCarrier said it will make the service available on nine additional POPs.
