USA Fiber hires competitive industry veteran Schmitt as chief revenue officer

USA Fiber, a dark fiber provider, has named competitive telecom industry veteran John Schmitt as its new chief revenue officer.

John SchmittIn his new position, he will oversee all customer facing activity, and will report to Ken Goff, CEO and co-founder.

Schmitt is best known as the chief development officer for FiberLight, where he led efforts to expand revenue and margin for its dark fiber network services.

A 20-year telecom veteran, Schmitt has served in sales executive roles at a number of competitive and traditional telcos, including Xspedius Fiber Group, ACSI NT, e.spire and Cincinnati Bell.

While Schmitt may be new USA Fiber, he's joining a management team that he knows well. USA Fiber's President Judd Carothers and VP of Sales Jeremy Latimer worked alongside Schmitt at FiberLight.

Joining SummitIG, Wilcon, and Cross River Fiber, USA Fiber has become part of an emerging new class of dark fiber providers. USA Fiber has maintained that what will set it apart from incumbent and other competitive fiber providers is its approach.

The service provider is in the process of has building a new dark fiber route connecting the coveted Ashburn, Va.-to-Baltimore route by crossing the Potomac River, bypassing the crowded Washington, D.C., network path. Set to go live this year, USA Fiber said its route will enable it to reduce network latency on data traffic coming out of Ashburn that's destined for destinations in Maryland and northward.
