Windstream establishes 100G express route in red-hot Ashburn, Va. market via NJFX

Windstream is extending its 100G network to NJFX's carrier-neutral data center in Wall Township, N.J., giving customers a new express route into its 21715 Filigree Court point of presence (POP) in Ashburn, Va.

Establishing what will be a direct network route in NJFX's Meet-Me Room (MMR) at the Tata Communications Cable Landing Station (CLS) is important as it will give both Windstream and NJFX customers access to the Ashburn area's Internet hub, one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world.

According to industry estimates Ashburn is the hub for 70 percent of the world's Internet traffic.

What makes Windstream a viable partner for NJFX is that it has four separate paths in and out of the Ashburn area.

Another benefit of this new route is the path it travels. With a focus on providing low latency and security, the network connection bypasses the congested New York and Northern New Jersey routes that are based on legacy optical network infrastructure. NJFX customers will be able to get access to Windstream's cloud communications, advanced data and voice solutions, and 100 Gigabit Ethernet services delivered over the company's extensive nationwide fiber and IP network.

Windstream offers connectivity to and from 9 million square feet of data center, including ten major third-party data centers and data center campuses in the Washington D.C., area, which includes facilities in Ashburn, Reston and McLean, Va.

Windstream and NJFX's customers will also benefit from access to over 240 countries and territories via Tata Communications' global subsea fiber network. By being the exclusive, carrier-neutral MMR operator inside Tata Communications' international CLS in Wall Township, N.J., NJFX tenants benefit from connectivity to service providers within the CLS.

NJFX's new data center features over 1,000 cabinets for carrier-neutral colocation and greater capacity, with densities ranging from 2 kW to 16 kW per cabinet to address high-density power needs.

Extending its 100G network to NJFX makes sense as Windstream looks to attract more tenants on its growing 100G and 500G networks for its enterprise customers and its growing base of wholesale customers. Previously, it realigned its Carrier Solutions business unit to focus on selling services to specific market segments like cable, traditional carriers and content providers.

In addition to its agreement with NJFX, Windstream has been extending its 500G network with new routes in other key markets, including Miami and from Denver to Chicago and Dallas.
