Zayo wraps dark fiber route build between NYSE and Equinix NY5 data centers

Zayo has completed the buildout of a dark fiber route between the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) data center facility at 1700 MacArthur Blvd in Mahwah, N.J., and Equinix's International Business Exchange (IBX) data center at 800 Secaucus Road (NY5), enabling it to better respond to financial companies' desire for low-latency network services.

Spanning 37.7 km, Zayo claims the route is the shortest, lowest latency fiber route available between these two locations. Zayo said that because the new route will leverage its broader fiber footprint it will create an "attractive return based on the anchor enterprise customer alone."

This new route connects to Zayo's New Jersey/New York dark fiber network, which spans more than 500 route miles, and Zayo's global network, which extends more than 84,000 route miles across the U.S. and Europe. Customers will be able to access Zayo's array of fiber-based solutions, including metro dark fiber and wavelengths.

One the of the additional benefits for customers that purchase services on the route is that it can provide reduced latency from Mahwah to major data centers via Equinix's NY5 facility, including 1400 Federal Blvd in Carteret, N.J., 300 Boulevard East in Weehawken, N.J., and 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue in New York City.

Zach Nebergall, vice president of metro dark fiber at Zayo, said in a release that as it expands its relationships with existing New York-area customers, it plans to "invest in similar opportunities that leverage our existing fiber network to both further drive returns and expand our competitive position."

New York and New Jersey have been two key buildout targets for Zayo. Earlier this year, Zayo completed its dark fiber route between 1700 MacArthur Blvd and 755 Secaucus Road in Secaucus, N.J.

It is also in the process of building out an additional ultra-low latency route between 1400 Federal Blvd. in Carteret and 1700 MacArthur Blvd. in Mahwah.
